MG 08/15 teams seem pretty bad

Post by Vuther » Sun Apr 20, 2014 7:09 pm

In return for not having set-up and tear-down times like the Machine Gun Section, I don't think I've ever seen them suppress a squad in cover, their damage doesn't seem very impressive, and they even cost 10 MP more than the Machine Gun Section!

Perhaps I am using them wrong, but I have found MG 08/15 teams to be singularly underwhelming.

The MG08/15 suppresses and kill good from my experience. However they die alittle too fast to be used as offensive troops.

That is odd, because german MG 08/15 teams where really used as spearheads in assaults, especially over open terrain.
I am unable to further test this ingame, because CoH crashes every time i play, after perhaps 20 minutes.
But as soon as I'm able to overcome this I will try to use the LMG teams as they did; moving in front until the enemy position is located, and then trying to supress them to allow the infantry to close distance or bypass them.
I hope it is replicable ingame.

Exact this happend to me in my last game.
A bunch of german machine gun sharpshooters tried to overrun my trenches followed by a few Stoßtrupps.
History lesson by AI

Hah! Really?

Herr Durandal, was that casual or you purposefully introduced this behaviour in to the German AI?
Because that will be really cool!

Hey Guys :D
I would suggest , that the normal MG 08 Team get a slightly HP buff,
cause they get actually killed very fast,

and my second suggestion is, give the Sniper MG team or as HP Buff also the normal MG team an upgrade with the Trench armor
, because, for this reason, they would produced.

Yes the MG08/15 squad needs to be tougher. What came in my mind about the MGsharpshooters was to add the possibility to upgrade Sappenpanzer.

About the sappenpanzer, I always belived it should be reserved for snipers, MG gunners (both types) and pioneers (maybe just demolitions and combat pioneers, well the ones with flamethrowers).
Not for all the landser rank and file.

I don´t think snipers or pioneers would need sappenpanzers.
First in the line of fire, first into hostile land.

Historically the Sappenpanzer was reserved mostly for sentries and machine gunners, due to its inhibition of movement. It seems odd, therefore, to give it to the Landser. Going by the name, however, it would be most appropriate for the Pioniere. :P

As to the MG08/15, it was one of the worlds first man-portable heavy machine guns, and barely modified from the standard MG08 which made it a real bitch to use. Therefore, i believe it should be much less manoeuvrable but also be a more capable weapon, putting it on more equal terms with the Vickers.
